Chocolate Museum Cologne: Tickets, How Long to Allow and Whether It Is Worth It
4 min read
The Chocolate Museum is worth a visit if you like industrial and cultural history with a taste at the end, and it works best when you pair it with the harbour walk or a Rhine cruise. The entry ticket is sold on GetYourGuide as an official ticket, and the provider is the museum’s own company.
What the ticket gets you
The Chocolate Museum entry ticket costs €17.50, is rated 4.4 out of 5 and has 3,239 reviews. It is valid for one day and the booking page says you skip the ticket line. For comparison, the museum’s own visitor page lists adults at €17.50 on weekdays and €19 at weekends and on holidays, children and pupils up to 18 at €10 and €11.50, and a family ticket at €35 and €38.
According to the page, the museum covers 5,000 years of cocoa and chocolate culture. You walk through a tropical house and see exhibits from pre-Columbian Central America, a porcelain and silver collection from the Baroque period and old machines from the industrial age. In a glass chocolate factory you can watch chocolate being made, and a 3-metre chocolate fountain holds 200 kg of chocolate, which visitors are explicitly invited to taste.
The includes list shows the ticket, an information booklet and a guided tour. Because those lists on booking pages can mix up what is and is not included, check on the page whether a guided tour is part of your slot. The museum itself sells its public guided tours separately, from €5 for an hour.
How long to allow
Neither the booking page nor the museum names a visiting time. Plan for the exhibitions, the glass factory and the tropical house, and a stop in the museum café if you want one. If you are going after another sight, remember the rule on the page: the last entry is one hour before closing, and the production facilities close about 30 minutes before the museum does. The museum’s visitor page gives daily opening from 10:00 to 18:00, so the last entry is at 17:00. It is closed on Mondays 9 and 16 November 2026 and on 24 and 25 December; on 31 December it closes at 16:00.
Children, access and getting there
The page states that children under 12 must be accompanied by a paying adult. It is tagged wheelchair accessible; confirm the details with the museum if you need step-free access. The address is Am Schokoladenmuseum 1A, 50676 Köln, on the Rheinauhafen peninsula.
Combine it with something
The one-hour Rhine cruises pass the museum and the Rheinauhafen; see our Rhine cruise guide. In winter the Hafen Christmas market beside the museum runs from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027 according to the city’s listing, and our Christmas market guide shows the other markets. For other tickets in the city, see tickets and attractions in Cologne.
Is it worth it?
Yes if you have an afternoon, enjoy museums and want something indoors in bad weather. Probably not if you only have a few hours in the city and the cathedral is your priority; the cathedral comes first, and our cathedral ticket guide explains the new entry rules.
